Black rockfish are the most commonly caught, ranging between 1 and 10 lbs. We also catch non-pelagics such as the Yelloweye, China, Quillback, Copper, Silvergray and Tiger.

Get to know your rockfish…
Yelloweye: The largest species of rockfish typically caught in our area. They can exceed 20 pounds.
Copper: Found in shallower reef structure, not regularly caught.
Tiger: A solitary rockfish, where the other species are commonly found in schools, not frequently caught.
Quillback: A smaller species of rockfish and the most commonly nonpelagic caught.
China: One of our small nonpelagic species that is frequently caught. Easy to identify with its striking yellow on black coloring.
Black (Dusky): By far the most common rockfish you will catch out of Homer. These pelagic rockfish school heavily on rocky structures and can be easily caught (most days!).
